In September of 2018 a friend of mine introduced me to the concept of listmaking. Listmaking is the act of making small sequences of things. It can be anything, even seemingly nonsensical thoughts that “pop” into your head. Many people are familiar with listmaking by way of the “to-do” list.

For twelve days we used listmaking to remind ourselves of things we were grateful for which had occurred or which we had thought about during the day. I found that it had an impressive impact on my daily mood. I continue to remind myself of the things I am grateful for regularly. My friend and I still send one another messages containing within them the things with with we are grateful for. I have copied down my lists from those twelve days for your consideration, along with some links which you might enjoy.

Try cultivating a gratitude practice with someone. It could be your parent, your sibling, a friend, or a lover. It is a simple act that can have a powerful impact on your emotional well-being.

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”
